"EMBRACE FUCKEDUPNESS" Español. Publicado en: UNO magazine #42, marzo 2009. Hace un par de años estaba con un buen amigo tomando una cerveza en un bar, en una semana de esas en las que todo sale mal. Comentamos la cantidad de sucesos absurdos y desconcertantes que rodeaban nuestras vidas por aquellos días pero, curiosamente, ambos parecíamos coincidir en que no nos preocupaban mucho. Los dos nos contábamos que nos habíamos acostumbrado a ese caos, a que aunque intentáramos ordenar nuestras vidas constantemente, el contexto y la condición humana (sobre todo la nuestra) siempre nos llevaba a un lugar no previsto. Y lo cierto es que, observado desde un ángulo con calma, ese caos resultaba tan interesante e inevitable que no cabía más que acogerlo con los brazos abiertos. Y mi amigo, que tiene una educación muy yankie, decidió resumir ese conformismo por lo inevitablemente caótico con dos palabras: "embrace fuckedupness", o lo que es -traducido bastamente- lo mismo: "acepta lo jodido". Y de eso se trata, de dejarse llevar por el absurdo, algo muy difícil a veces, pero altamente recomendable en la vida creativa. -------------- "EMBRACE FUCKEDUPNESS" English (translated by TAG). Published in: UNO magazine #42, May 2009. A couple of years ago I was in a bar having a drink with a good friend of mine, it was one of those weeks when everything seems to go wrong. We were talking about the crazy and absurd sequence of events that had taken place in our lives the past few days, but the curious thing was that neither of us seemed that affected at all. We both essentially told each other that we had become accustomed to the chaos, the fact that no matter how hard and how often we tried to give our lives some semblance of order, reality and the basic human condition (especially ours at that point in life) always seemed to take us somewhere unexpected. And the fact of the matter is, if you look at it with a clear eye, chaos is actually so interesting and inexorable that there is nothing one can do except embrace it with open arms. So my friend, who grew up in America, nicely summed up our conformity with the inevitable chaos of our lives with a simple expression: "Embrace fuckedupness". Granted, it's not exactly proper English, but it makes perfect sense. Give chaos free rein of your life --it may not always be the easiest thing to do but I highly recommend it, especially if you work in a creative field.
